Many NDIS participants and families ask whether cleaning can be funded through the NDIS. The answer depends on your plan, your disability-related needs and how supports are described. This guide explains the basics and what to check before you book. It is general information, not advice about your own plan.

What is NDIS domestic assistance?

Domestic assistance means help with household tasks that you cannot do yourself because of your disability. It can only be funded when it is a reasonable and necessary support in your plan.

Yard and garden maintenance
Meal preparation

Is cleaning always funded?

No. The NDIS considers whether a support relates to your disability, represents value for money and is likely to be effective. Decisions are made case by case, and NDIS price limits apply. Cleaning that anyone would normally pay for is generally not covered, while help that your disability makes necessary may be.

How to check your funding

Read your plan and look at your core supports budget.
Ask your support coordinator or plan manager whether household tasks are included.
Ask the provider to confirm they are registered and how they will charge.
Agree on tasks, times and prices in a written service agreement.
